Have you noticed the increasing number of Flock cameras throughout the area? Wonder what’s that all about? Well, it ain’t good.
Flock Safety cameras, which are advertised as automated license plate readers (ALPRs) are supposed to be scrupulously used by only local law enforcement agencies (LEAs), but they have raised significant privacy, security and ethical concerns. While the cameras are marketed as tools to solve crimes by capturing license plate and vehicle characteristics, they have been proved to enable hacking, stalking, assault, and mass surveillance by the US government.
Many of us, who genuinely care about everyone’s safety, security and right to privacy, are tired of the rampant errors and crimes that are resulting from the use and misuse of this information. Mis-identification errors and outright crimes from their use have become so common that many LEAs are cancelling their contracts. However, even after contracts have been cancelled, the information is sometimes still available through the flock databases and subsequently mis-used.

Encourage our local county commissioners, sheriff’s departments, and town councils to CANCEL their contracts now, and REMOVE the cameras.
