Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts regarding funding for public media. I appreciate hearing from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I recognize that public broadcasting plays a key role in delivering news, weather, and emergency information across North Carolina and the country. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), a nonprofit managing federal investments, provides funds to both the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Established by the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, CPB transformed information sharing, but today, public broadcasters face strong competition from commercial media. Commercial broadcasters now offer quality educational, world and local news, and entertainment programming. Given this new landscape, we must find economically-sound solutions and do not impose any additional burdens on the taxpayers. The challenge for us today is funding federal programs in fiscally responsible ways in light of our crushing national debt and increasing liabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please know that as the Senate considers federal funding for public media, I will keep your views in mind. Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me about other issues that are important to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you for replying to my concerns over defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you seriously suggesting that the CPB should not receive federal funding because the private sector does a great job of providing “quality educational, world and local news”? You do realize that Fox News continues to exist as a pseudo-news outlet, while broadcasting outrageous lies and hard-right propaganda, including statements that, by their own attorneys’ admission, are \u201cloose, figurative or hyperbolic\u201d? Do you recall 2020, when “Fox \u201cnews\u201d anchors were arguing in favor of broadcasting inaccurate results from Arizona in 2020 because their audience didn\u2019t want to hear the truth”?* At a moment when American democracy teeters on the brink, sustaining blow after blow, do you honestly think it’s important to stop spending money on a news source that has an outstanding record of informing the electorate with accurate, factual information? Have you fully surrendered to the American Nazi oligarchy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you would like to waste less of taxpayers’ money, start by demanding that Donald Trump fund his golfing excursions out of his own pocket. The Guardian estimated on March 17 that over $23 million had been spent so far since Inauguration Day.** Annualized, that comes to at least $150 million in a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I could go on about Trump’s idiotic spending and foot-shooting “efficiency” moves, such as cutting IRS funding, but you know these facts. The question for you, once again, is what you plan to do – will you continue enabling the destruction of our society by defending the First Felon in the White House and his illegal actions, or will you remember your oath and stop Trump from becoming the first American King and sole authority on the law?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s not too late for you, Senator Tillis, to do the right thing. Please hurry up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
