Dear [xx],
Thank you for contacting me about potential cuts to Medicaid. It is an honor to represent the people of North Carolina. I appreciate the opportunity to hear from you on this issue.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates the federal government pays for about 65 percent of total Medicaid spending, which is upwards of $800 billion annually. The total cost of the program, combined with the challenges presented by an alarming rate of growth for medical costs, demonstrates that Medicaid needs reform to remain sustainable for future generations. If such reforms come before the Senate, I’ll work to ensure they provide high-value care for Medicaid-eligible citizens long-term.
