Trash pickup

Thank you to everyone that came out to help clean up Summit and socialize at Mad Platter after.  Unfortunately the only picture taken was of the trash as it was dropped off at the dump, but for your viewing pleasure…

Upcoming events

July 4 (on the 3rd) PARADE! Calling all Mountain Indivisibles and friends!

Why would I want to celebrate independence day???  Maybe this will help https://www.youtube.com/shorts/086pwPL4Op4

MI will have a large float in the “Spruce Pine Independence Day Parade” on July 3rd. This is a non-political event during the “Stars, Stripes, and Strings” festival. Gather/line up is between 5-5:30 pm. Parade starts at 6 pm.

The float will carry the oh-so-talented Samba Appalachian drummers. Yippee!!

We want y’all to come dance with the band and/or hand out candy to kiddos!

Please…no political signs for this one!!! No exceptions unless your dog has a “dogs for democracy” vest! (I’m looking at you, Rocky and Luna!) Bring water, sun screen, and pup foot protection, in case it’s a blister of a day!

This is a spread-good-cheer-and-love event (and to show folks how adorable we are.) Bring your friendly dogs! Dress yourself (or pooch) in red, white and blue! If you have Mountain Indivisible merch, wear that too. But definitely bring your dancing shoes!

Must be able to be on your feet for about 2 hours, but if you need a rest, (or to ride the whole time,) that can be accommodated in the bed of the pick-up.

Be there or be square!

If you’re planning to join the parade, please register through https://www.mobilize.us/mountainindivisible/event/976395/ so that we have a rough headcount beforehand.

I found a second vote.gov — and it’s registered to the White House

https://thedreydossier.substack.com/p/i-found-a-second-votegov-and-its

There is a moment in every investigation where the thing you have been looking for finds you instead. Mine found me on TrumpRx.

If you have not been to TrumpRx, it is a federal drug pricing website that looks like Wix and a Pinterest board threw up on each other. There is a gold three-dimensional eagle on the homepage clutching a ribbon in its talons that says TrumpRx. There are pills floating across the screen like a pharmaceutical screensaver. The tagline, and I am quoting directly from a website owned by the United States government, invites you to TrumpRx the price. It has the typography of a Brooklyn juice bar and the self-regard of someone who has never been told no. It is, in every conceivable aesthetic sense, a catastrophe. And while you are busy looking at the eagle, the website is busy looking at you. I wish I were being metaphorical.

‘It’s dangerous and it’s going to erode trust’: redesign of US government websites stokes surveillance fears

The National Design Studio, staffed by Doge veterans, installed visitor-tracking software on vital federal websites

An opaque White House office staffed largely by veterans of Elon Musk’s “department of government efficiency” (Doge) has quietly rebuilt some of the federal government’s most sensitive websites – for passport applications, voter registration, prescription-drug pricing and children’s savings – in ways critics say appear to violate federal law.

How DHS and ICE Are Weaponizing OSINT to Crush the First Amendment

https://eyesonice.substack.com/p/how-dhs-and-ice-are-weaponizing-osint

DHS and ICE have crossed into open retaliation. This is no longer immigration enforcement. It is a federal intimidation circuit aimed at citizens who speak out.

The pattern locked in during the last week of June 2026. The same two ICE agents carried out two operations hundreds of miles apart. One inside a Syracuse polling site.

Over 3,500 people were detained during Operation Metro Surge. Here’s where they went.

https://minnesotareformer.com/2026/06/16/over-3500-people-were-detained-during-operation-metro-surge-heres-where-they-went

Most immigrants arrested in Operation Metro Surge were sent to Camp East Montana in El Paso, Texas, after being detained at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building in Minnesota.

Nearly half of them were eventually deported, mostly to Mexico and Ecuador.

Only two people were deported to Somalia, according to the data, even though the ostensible reason for the immigration enforcement surge of federal agents to Minnesota in the winter was to target Somali Minnesotans. The vast majority of Minnesotans with Somali ancestry are citizens.

According to the Flock CEO DeFlock is a terrorist organization and equivalent to “Antifa”

Arrested Because a Camera Got It Wrong

“If you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear.” Tell that to two North Carolina women who were handcuffed for crimes they had nothing to do with — because a camera, and the officers who trusted it, got it wrong.

FCC may kill $2B program that connects schools and libraries to Internet

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2026/06/fcc-may-kill-2b-program-that-connects-schools-and-libraries-to-internet

The Federal Communications Commission was roundly criticized today for proposing to scale back or eliminate E-Rate, a $2 billion-a-year Universal Service program that provides discounts for telecom services and equipment in schools and libraries.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said E-Rate should be changed because students are getting too much screen time. He led a 2-1 vote to issue a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that proposes changes and asks the public to comment on them.
